About Us

Welcome to a female-fuelled idea

The Little Big Sister Foundation (LBS) was founded in 2015.

The foundation strives to make positive changes in the lives of females in South Africa
and is predominantly focused on supporting girls in disadvantaged communities
through sisterhood and mentoring programmes.

Our objective is to facilitate fair opportunities for girls and young women;

by supplementing their education, broadening their employment prospects and
guiding them through the pivotal years of their lives.

KNOWLEDGE WORKSHOP

YES WE CAN FOOD DRIVE

Feeding our community - together

Starting at the Roots

This winter we decided to feed our community with the help of our amazing supporters and one lucky local hero.
The YES WE CAN Food Drive was not only about accumulating funds and canned goods, but also to create an awareness of the everyday-community-heroes among us that are going above and beyond to uplift and feed the communities. As nominated by our social media followers - Bridget van Niekerk from Tafelsig was given all the proceeds from the drive to sustain the food scheme that she runs from her home.

Open Notebook

The Knowledge Workshop kicked-off at Heideveld Primary, where the LBS Team ran multiple workshops with the female students over several months.
The workshops prepare our young girls to make informed choices about their education and career path. It also focuses on health, body image and human rights, teaching girls to be respectful and responsible towards themselves and others.
The LBS Team's aim is to develop positive young women who give back to their communities - creating a chain-reaction of positivity and possibility.

KNOWLEDGE MANUAL

BACK TO SCHOOL DRIVE

Shaping the Leaders of Tomorrow

Laying the Foundation to a Solid Future

Recently, the Little Big Sister Foundation embarked on its biggest initiative to date - The LBS Knowledge Workshop Manual. The LBS Team created the Knowledge Manual to support girls' mental and emotional needs while growing up in unforgiving environments. The manual is relevant and adaptable, and has been developed with the intent of building a generation of young and empowered women, helping them prosper and become significant contributors in the world.

DANCE FOR CHANGE

Making a Difference One Step at a Time

On 31 March 2017 The LBS foundation hosted its first ever fundraiser - Dance For Change. The event was a huge success and the LBS Team saw significant growth in the support base of the NPO. Not only was the agenda of female youth awareness achieved but the organisation raised enough funds to start paving the way for it's biggest initiative - The Knowledge Workshop Manual.

CAREER WORKSHOP

Shaping the Leaders of Tomorrow

In 2015 The LBS Team visited St. Michael's Girls Home and ran a Career Guidance workshop for several weeks. The girls were also taken on a nature excursions and one lucky Little Sister had her dream matric dance come true.

For our third Annual Christmas Drive we decided to team up with the Great Commission United Academy, a Heideveld-based youth sports academy.
Our Back To School 2018 initiative was met with a tremendous response and saw donations streaming in until 2019! Pencils, crayons, rulers, exercise books, glue sticks, khokis, notepads, erasers, scissors, pencil bags, dictionaries, school bags, mathematical sets and almost every other stationery item that you can think of was donated.

The LBS Team met the new school year with big smiles and even bigger boxes of stationery, as they visited 5 primary schools in the Heideveld area to drop off supplies and meet with some amazing principals and teachers.

PINK CHRISTMAS DRIVE

Building a Better, Brighter Future

For our second annual drive the LBS team decided on a Pink Christmas. This year we saw the sad recurring reality of young girls that can't afford hygiene products. This affects far more that just their hygiene, everything from their schooling to their  self-esteem is disturbed. And for this reason that we went to St. Georges Girls Home and Ons Plek Projects For Girls to donate feminine products (and some sparkly accessories). The LBS Team also got to spend some quality time with these beautiful girls, getting a first-hand understanding of the lives that they live.

TOY DRIVE

Spreading Love and Joy

In December 2016 The Little Big Sister Foundation held it's first Christmas Drive. The toy drive was a huge success and brought lots of smiles and merriness to the children of Heaven's Nest Children's Home.
